And now for your official
Crazy Happy Project House Update!
This update is far past due! The last month has been a blur. I liken it when my son was first born. I’m not quite sure what happened that first month. I was there. I was busy. I did a lot of stuff, I’m sure. But I don’t really remember it. All I know is one day I looked at the calendar and realize that HOLY COW a month had passed. Same thing here. My “house baby” just turned a month old…ok, actually it is more like a month and a half old! See…there’s some freaky time warp stuff going on here!!
Where We Stand
Our goal was to complete all of Phase 1 before we moved into the house. We had three weeks and actually didn’t do too bad:
PHASE 1
✔Carpet Removal
✔Knock Down Spindle Walls
✔Ceiling Popcorn Removal
✔Prime & Paint Ceilings
✔Paint the Walls
✔New Back Door
✔Lay Wood Laminate Floors (except Kitchen & Baths)
Paint & Install New Baseboard Trim
We came SO close to finishing the list. But alas, there was no way to finish the baseboards and still have time to actually move into the house before our lease was up at the old house. So, we went ahead and moved on in. I was thrilled to have finished so much!
Baseboard Glee
My hubby has been working to finish the baseboards over the last week. It is a much slower process when you have to move furniture around in each room while you’re working. BUT it is almost finished!
I never thought that something like a baseboard could possibly make me such a happy camper. Both my hubby and I are super excited to look around the house and see the baseboards…not a gaping hole and underlayment…but actual baseboards. It is such a finishing touch. I mean, just look at these details:
Next Up on the List
We had hoped that the kitchen renovation would be our Phase 2. However, once we purchased the house, we realized that the cabinets were not exactly great candidates for refinishing like we had originally thought. It is looking like it will be a total gut job for the kitchen. The time and money needed for this project made us decide to push it out until after the holidays.
I’m a little bummed, but I’m excited at the thought of a brand spanking new kitchen! Woohoo! In the meantime, we are going to do a few little tweaks to make it a bit more livable. A little paint and TLC will help it blend with the rest of the house until we can get the reno underway.
So, our next phase consists of some more tedious tasks that might not have as much BANG, but will certainly add to the overall feel of the house.
PHASE 2
Touch Up Paint on Baseboard Trim
Paint the Kitchen Walls and Island
Replace Door Trim on Exterior Doors
Replace Interior Doors and Trim
Replace Closet Doors
Replace Outlets and Light Switches
Before & Afters
Let us not forget from whence we came! My first attempt at an animated GIF makes me feel so much better about all of the hard work over the last few weeks. Sure, there is still a bunch to do…but just look at how far we’ve come!!
