The Crazy Happy family recently had a chance to take a much needed vacation in a cabin in the woods in Franklin, North Carolina. After the craziness of buying and remodeling a house over the last few months, a completely unplugged trip seemed like a dream.
Cabin in the Woods
This is our third time staying at a fabulous cabin called Smoky Mountain Heaven. A lot of cabins that I’ve stayed in before have a “staying at your grandmother’s house” kind of vibe. In contrast, our Smoky Mountain Heaven definitely has more of a modern rustic vibe. We love the architecture, the interior design, the gourmet kitchen, and the view….OMG the view!!
The View
The cabin has an almost 180 degree view of the mountains! The Appalachian Trail even runs along the far ridge!
I mean, just look at what you can see from the deck:
Every sunset is an adventure:
It’s enough to make me burst into a rousing song – “Oh misty eye of the mountain below….” I’m pretty sure this is the mountain they were talking about about in The Hobbit song I See Fire. I mean, it looks like flames are burning auburn on the mountainside!
Even the rainy days were beautiful!
And the sunrises!! Oh my!
These photos are all shot from the deck of the house! It’s not some lookout where we hiked miles to get the perfect vantage point. It was literally a “wake up and walk outside” type of thing. It was an ever changing canvas beautifully painted anew each day.
The Cabin
As if the view isn’t enough, the cabin itself is almost equally as beautiful and well done. The owners, Lorin and Dawn, have been fabulous to work with over our three stays. They take a lot of pride in their cabin and it shows. It is always such a unique and relaxing experience.
While a lot of cabins are more traditional, this cabin has a black finish with red accents. The branch fencing is one of my favorite touches. I’m already trying to figure out where I can incorporate branch art into our house.
You can read more about the cabin here.
Relaxation Destination
The trip was a much needed break from all the crazy hustle of everyday life. It is amazing what a week without Internet and cell phones can do! For us, there is nothing better than getting outside and enjoying the world around us.
What is your favorite relaxation destination? Do you like to hike, shop, play, read, or just sit and relax?

WOW! Love your photos of the Mountains. Breathtaking! I so love the mountains! They are a part of my heritage. I feel so at home hiking or just siting back and enjoying the ever changing view. Wish I was there now! Thanks for sharing.
